Perry's Schuch Hotel Restaurant & Bar has a long tradition of great food and great spirits.

The Schuch Hotel was built in 1868 and has lived under several names. It’s been known as the Brockway House, the Benson House, the Crowley House and the Hotel Ames. It is steeped in rich history, and has been a popular after theater meeting place for Pit & Balcony patrons.

After purchasing the building and naming it Crowley House in 1879, David Crowley remodeled it and added an addition.

During the early part of this century it was purchased by W. S. McLain and renamed the Hotel Ames, until it was sold in 1912 to Henry L. Schuch who ran the hotel with his son, John P. Schuch. John P. Schuch had quite a varied background.  He had been the county sheriff and a state senator.  He had also been a member of several organizations including the American Legion, the Pit & Balcony, and was a founder of the Saginaw Valley Historical Society.  He also served as a chairman of the draft board.  He was an avid collector of antiques.  He collected items from beer steins to lumbering tools to Civil War memorabilia.  Mr. Schuch said that the world famous boxer, John L. Sullivan, had been a guest at the hotel in 1884. Congressman Joseph W. Fordney worked as a hotel clerk there during the lumber era.

John P. Schuch died in 1953.  The family kept the building until about 1962, and even though it wasn’t in the Schuch family after that time it was still known as the Schuch until a brief period in the 1990’s of being called “Zinggers”.

Today the Schuch Hotel is now Perry’s Schuch Hotel Restaurant & Bar and is owned and operated by Saginaw native Mike Perry.  The old Schuch Hotel has the distinction of being “Saginaw’s Oldest Saloon”.
